The Metallic Version of The Nativity gives up restraint entirely. Every surface — the manger, the figures, the night around them — is clad in gold, silver and copper metallic leaves over carved wood and cast-epoxy, with 24 karat gold held back for the points that carry the meaning. Each metal answers light in its own way, so the composition shifts as the viewer moves around it. The same scene as the carved wood version, after Gustave Doré, and an entirely different encounter with it.
