In 2024, Amnon Moalem completed a work unlike any other in his career. Not a commission. Not a gallery piece. A gift, a kingly gift, conceived and executed as a personal tribute to Donald J. Trump, President-elect of the United States of America.
The work was born from a conviction: that Trump’s dedication to the values of peace, freedom, justice, and human dignity, and his historic commitment to the Jewish people and to the State of Israel, his singular willingness to stand against the tide of international opinion, deserved acknowledgment at a level commensurate with its significance. Not words. A monument.
The work was given a name: The New Jerusalem Monument. And an additional title, chosen to capture the vision it was meant to carry into the world: Peace upon Earth, Under Heaven. A vision of Jerusalem not as a contested city, but as the ancient dream it has always been, a city of light, a city of peace, the home of humanity’s most enduring aspirations.
For the occasion, Amnon Moalem created a unique emblem, a symbol designed specifically for this act of presentation, and for no other purpose.
The presentation never took place. The challenges of access to the President of the United States, compounded by dramatic developments in the Middle East during that period, brought the gesture to a halt. The work has remained with the artist since, preserved, documented, waiting.
